Back by popular demand, Darlington Raceway announced Thursday that the NASCAR Cup Series Hauler Parade will return after a three-year hiatus for the Crown Royal presents Darlington Labor Day Race Weekend.
The parade will be Sept. 1, with the route beginning at Florence-Darlington Technical College and ending at The Track Too Tough to Tame. Beginning at 4 p.m., fans are invited to the Florence-Darlington Technical College staging area, where they can take photos with their favorite haulers while enjoying music and food from local vendors.

The Terrence Carraway Memorial 5K, presented by Brown’s RV Superstore, features a course around the historic-Darlington Raceway in memory of Florence Police Officer, Sgt. Terrence Carraway. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Terrence F. Carraway Foundation. The race will be held on Thursday, August 31 at 6:30 PM.
All race participants will receive a t-shirt and medal. The race will be run in partnership with Simply Timing to benefit the Terrence F. Carraway Foundation.

ne of the first things Don Strickland did when he joined the Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority in 2008 was ride its buses to “learn what we do everyday and why we do it.”
The Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority executive director shared the story at the first SC Rural Transit Day on July 24 at the Florence Center. Local and state officials as well as private entities were in attendance.
Officials from across the state gathered in Florence to share their experiences with public transit and what it has done for their communities.

Florence County officials aren’t ready to reveal the identity of the company associated with “Project Mimosa,” which will bring $20 million investment and 29 new jobs to the county.
The County Council passed on first reading an ordinance to expand Florence-Williamsburg County Industrial Park at its July 20 meeting. The park will be home to the “Project Mimosa” company.
Williamsburg County Council also has approved the industrial park’s expansion.
A fee-in-lieu of taxes agreement for Project Mimosa was approved on second reading at the meeting. The resolution guarantees the county will refund 35 percent of the property taxes to the company for 10 years.
The money can be used only for infrastructure improvements needed by the company, improvements to the site location and personal property used by the company, according to the resolution.
Florence County is expected to consider the fee in lieu of taxes agreement for third and final reading at its Aug. 17 meeting.

This week, the SC Chamber released its annual Results for Business report reflecting on their advocacy efforts during the 2023 state legislative session. The 2023 Results for Business report emphasized that the SC Chamber’s advocacy resulted in over a $1.14 billion impact for South Carolina’s business community, or approximately $6,640 per employer in the state. In a year when the General Fund had record revenues, the General Assembly and the SC Chamber were able to use those dollars to deliver results for the business community. Every dollar saved for businesses is another dollar to be reinvested in South Carolina’s economy.
