Florence Chamber Welcomes 2023-2024 Leadership South Carolina

The Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce was delighted to sponsor the welcome reception for the 2023-2024 Leadership South Carolina class last week at the Francis Marion University Gately Gallery at University Place in downtown Florence.

Helen Munnerlyn, Executive Director of Leadership South Carolina, brought the 50-person Leadership group back to Florence as part of the Future Challenges & Graduation Ceremony session. This is the third time Helen has included Florence in the leadership development program agenda.

The class has held sessions throughout South Carolina including Columbia, Charleston/Seabrook Island, Greenville, McEntire Joint National Guard Base in Eastover, Greenwood and Spartanburg.

Leadership Florence Participates In Local Government & Law Enforcement Day

Tuesday, April 9th, the Chamber’s Leadership Florence Class of 2024 had Local Government and Law Enforcement Day. The cohorts had the opportunity to hear from the Mayor of Florence, City Manager and County Administrator.

The class also experienced presentations from local law enforcement officials. A special thank you goes out to the City of Florence, Florence County Police Department, Florence County, and Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

It was an amazing and exciting day for this special group of business leaders.

Leadership Florence is a comprehensive nine-month program designed to identify, cultivate and motivate new leadership for the Greater Florence Area. Participants will increase their knowledge of our area and enhance their involvement in community activities while further developing their leadership skills. Harry Carson 3rd Annual Golf Invitational Tournament Drop-In

The Florence and Darlington Alumni Chapters of the South Carolina State University National Alumni Association (SCSUNAA) are kicking off their 3rd Annual SCSU Harry Carson Scholarship Golf Tournament (scheduled for Monday, June 17, 2024, at the Traces Golf Club) with a drop-in on Friday, April 19th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in Downtown Florence.  The Drop-in will be held in the Community Room at the Florence Chamber of Commerce (100 W Evans St).

The tournament in two years raised over $30,000 to support students attending SCSU from Florence and Darlington Counties. This is our 3rd year hosting tournament, and we are seeking to exceed each previous year with your support. To assist us in raising funds for student scholarships, please submit your donation with the enclosed envelope today. Proceeds from the golf tournament will provide monetary aid for tuition fees as well as incidental expenses for deserving students from Florence and Darlington Counties enrolled at SCSU.

Fellows In Education Meet At The Historic McClenaghan Building

The Fellows In Education Class of 2023-2024 held their April gathering on Tuesday at the historic McClenaghan Building at 500 S. Dargan St. to experience how The Florence County Adult Education program works.

Dr. Lisa Justice, Director Florence County Adult Education, and the FCAE staff shared initiatives that support adult learners onsite and at multiple satellite locations to become college and career ready in terms of academic skills, workplace credentials, and soft skills.

The Leaf Lounge Recognized As Business Of The Quarter

Congratulations to the Florence Chamber and City of Florence’s Business of the Quarter, Leaf Lounge. Leaf Lounge is a family-owned, cozy cigar bar and bistro where everyone is welcome to enjoy specialty crafted drinks, delicious gourmet eats, and quality cigars with distinctive tastes. Leaf Lounge is also host to many community-based events.

Owner Jesse Wiles III and Toronia Johnson accepted Resolution No. 2024-18 at the April City Council meeting.

Business of the Quarter is a unique partnership of the City of Florence and the Chamber to recognize local businesses for contributions to community development, growth and civic engagement.

Earth Day Clean Up Set For April 22nd

Get ready to make a difference this Earth Day with the City of Florence Resilience and Sustainability Committee, who is partnering up with Keep Florence Beautiful and Naturally Outdoors for an Earth Day Cleanup Event!

Mark your calendars for Monday, April 22nd, as we gather at Naturally Outdoors to clean up the trash and debris along the Rail Trail to the bridge on West Palmetto St.

Registration starts at 9:00 am, as Keep Florence Beautiful requires a quick release to be signed by all participants.
